From comScore: In an average month during the December through February 2010 time period, 64.0 percent of U.S. mobile subscribers used text messaging on their mobile device, up 1.9 percentage points versus three months prior. Browsers were used by 29.4 percent of U.S. mobile subscribers (up 2.4 percentage points), while subscribers who used downloaded applications made up 27.5 percent (up 1.8 percentage points). Access of social networking sites or blogs continued to grow, increasing 2.9 percentage points to 18.0 percent of mobile subscribers. Mobile Content Usage If usage patterns continue on their present growth trajectory, how long will it take before the promise of mobile local and search become as ubiquitous as industry pundits predict?

AdMob February 2010 Mobile Metrics Report

Smartphone usages continues to grow at the expense of “dumb phones”. From AdMob: * The mobile Internet devices category experienced strong growth, increasing to account for 17% of traffic in AdMob’s network in February 2010. The most popular devices in this category are the iPod touch, Sony PSP, and Nintendo DSi. * Smartphones accounted for 48% of AdMob’s worldwide traffic, up from 35% in February 2009, fueled by heavy application usage on iPhone and Android devices. * Over the last year, the iPhone OS increased its share of smartphone requests from 33% to 50% while Symbian’s share of requests fell from 43% to 18%. *Android was the fastest growing operating system in the AdMob network year-over-year.
